Overview and Purpose:
Teaching all age groups the basic terminology on shapes, days of the week, and the basic vocabulary with their opposite meanings.
*Students will learn to recognize basic geometric and non-geometric shapes; they will learn how to use them during coloring activities and game play.
Objectives:
Recognition and communication of the geometric shapes, days of the week and the basic vocabulary including the opposites of applicable words in English.
*Children will learn circle, triangle, rectangle, ellipse (oval), star, and the heart shapes in addition to learning Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Information:
Geometric shapes: Circle, triangle, rectangle, square, ellipse (oval).
Non-geometric shapes: Star and heart.
Days of the Week: Monday thru Sunday
Opposites: Various basic words and their opposites.
Verification:
Students will be asked to use what they have learned in basic sentences, in singing children’s songs and during game play. Basic children’s competition among all age groups will also be utilized to check for students' understanding.
*Children will repeat the words individually and in group activities and game play. They will ask for teacher's assistance when they are challenged by the meaning or pronunciation of a new word.
Activity:
Students will use various support materials and activities including coloring pictures, watching cartoons, and listening to children’s music.
*"Finger family", "shapes" and the "days of the week" songs. Coloring activity of balloon and other shapes.
Summary:
Children will gain basic comprehension and conversation skills to include the above terminology in their conversations of English as a second Language. Their learning process will be re-enforced by repetition.
*Children will repeat the new words in English at least seven times and they will retain the meanings of those words in their minds upon being taught via the help of visual aids.

*Flash cards and posters of the new terminology,

*scissors and glue.

There will also be a comprehensive review of what has been learned, by the children, since the beginning of the year during the month of May.
